Time at a nice hotel is the most obvious and common romantic getaway, and with good reason. It's wonderful to be waited on and to relax in a hot tub together. Find a hotel with a pool, a hot tub (preferably in the room) and even a lounge where you can go dancing.
If you live in or near Michigan, this could be the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. This is where they filmed the romantic Christopher Reed movie, "Somewhere In Time." You'll take the ferry to get there, and there are no cars, so you'll have see the island together by horse carriage.
If you enjoy getting outside, consider a camping weekend. You can really rough it, and put on the backpacks, or just rent an RV and find a beautiful park to visit. It's a great way to have some quality time together. Wherever you may live, there are at least several great outdoor destinations within a couple hours.
An example is the Hot Well Dunes Recreation Area, near Safford Arizona. There are two hot spring pools to soak in, and millions of acres of desert to explore. When my wife and I were there, we loved collecting beautiful rocks during desert hikes, and sitting around the fire with fellow campers each night. The hotsprings were great too.
Isn't it romantic to share new experiences together? Even if things don't go as planned, you're creating common memories that bring you closer together. The occasional minor disaster will be something you laugh about later - a story to tell your friends. Why not try something new this weekend?
