Things to Do in Davao City, Philippines
By Kenneth Zimmerle
There are many things to do in Davao City, Philippines. The
people are awesome, friendly, and most speak at least some English.
There are many forms of transportation here in Davao including
buses, taxis, motorcycles with attached sidecars, and even bicycles
made to take you to your destination. I recommend taking a taxi.
They are fast, efficient, and very reasonably priced. There are
many great restaurants here in Davao City, with the local foods
being the best. There are also many American fast food places
available if you are squeamish about trying new foods. After
you have had your fill of food, it is time for some adventure.
Crocodile Park is a great place to go for local entertainment.
There are crocodiles ranging from babies to ones over 16 feet
long. These are very powerful creatures with tremendous speed.
Other animals at the park include ostriches, tigers, exotic birds,
and even an baboon. You will learn about these animals and get
a chance to interact with some of them. There are live shows
featuring local entertainment and traditional dancing. Make sure
you bring your camera and sun protection. It is definitely hot
here.
Eden Nature Park is about an hours drive up a nearby mountain.
This place is beautiful and gives a great view of Davao City
sprawled out below. There is no snow on this mountain and it
is almost the same temperature as in the city. There is a great
restaurant here and also a beautiful swimming pool. There is
a shuttle bus tour that takes you to various sights on the mountain.
The flowers and vegetation here are some of the most beautiful
in the world. You can walk the trails on your own if you prefer
a more leisurely tour. You can even spend the night or rent a
building for a community function or other purpose. For the brave
of heart, you can go on a sky cable ride.
Pearl Farm Beach Resort is about a 45 minute boat ride from
Davao City. You might even see a dolphin on the way there. Once
you arrive, you are greeted by a welcoming crew. They will answer
all your questions while you sip your free complimentary drink.
The place has many cabins available for an overnight stay. There
is a swimming beach and also an infinity pool. The restaurant
here has world class food with a wide variety to choose from.
There is a souvenir shop and a lot of places to explore, including
a bat cave.
This is just a small sample of things to do in Davao City.
When you come, plan on staying at least two weeks. There are
many malls and local shops with low prices that will keep you
shopping for hours. Hotels and apartelles (hostels or bed and
breakfast operations) are spread throughout the city and most
have cooking facilities in them. So when you are ready to take
your next vacation, consider Davao City in the Philippines. The
people here are ready to welcome you.
